SectionX was born out of the need to highlight the shared countercultural roots of both experimental filmmaking with cinematic horrors.

The Méliès Awards, named in honour of Georges Méliès, recognise the best European fantastic feature and short films across an annual cycle of competitions among the member festivals of the Méliès International Festivals Federation, to which MOTELX belongs. The Méliès d’argent winners from each festival compete for the grand prize, the Méliès d’or, which is awarded annually in Sitges.
