VR Experience - MOTELX Cinema of Horrors

MOTELX Cinema of Horrors is a virtual reality experience that involves the imaginative world of the Festival and its home, Cinema São Jorge. Within the experience, the aim is to explore as much as possible and try to survive the horrors that inhabit the cinema’s spaces. Developed for the second year by Gonçalo Rabaça and Josean Portillo, graduates in Creative Technologies at IADE – Faculty of Design, Technology, and Innovation of the European University, this experience challenges its participants to come out unharmed from where only the bravest will be able to survive.

ONIROSCÓPIO Podcast

You wake up in your bed, but you can’t get out of the house. You don’t know if this is reality or a dream within a dream, within a dream. No matter how many times you fall asleep or wake up, all paths prove to be nightmares. In this unique session, you will get to decide how this adventure unfolds as you listen and vote on the way forward! Come and discover this first “choose your own adventure” horror podcast made in Portuguese. Do you dare to listen? Do you dare to choose and finally reach the primordial dream?

Founded in 2019, Bruá Podcasts is a producer that works exclusively with audio and podcast formats. With dozens of original titles and hundreds of hours of content, Bruá promises to continue to bring innovative, high-quality content to the world of Portuguese podcasts.

Junji Ito’s graphic novel “Tomie1” presentation, by Editora Devir

Jump into Japanese horror! In this activity, you can be part of the release of the Japanese graphic novel “Tomie1” – a collection of disturbing short-stories, full of mystery and horror, in which we are presented with a character whose enigmatic beauty and inexplicable fatality create an irresistible aura of terror. We will also have the opportunity to analyse the singular talent of the master of horror Junji Ito, and how he elevates the genre to a whole new level.

After Dark Party in Incógnito Bar

We invited all night owls for an unforgettable party at the mythical Incógnito with the best music from Dj Rai and Groove Armanda. A night only for the bravest… or just for those who like to have fun!

Book Release – “Os Melhores Contos da Fábrica do Terror – Vol. 1”

The First Anthology of Fábrica do Terror.Fábrica do Terror is pleased to present its first anthology, “Os Melhores Contos da Fábrica do Terror – Vol. 1”, a selection of short stories by all the authors published by Fábrica do Terror during 2022. The book, which will be presented by Sandra Henriques, Ricardo Alfaia, and Pedro Lucas Martins (founders of Fábrica do Terror), features 37 authors and their various horror stories, in an unprecedented edition of Portuguese literature.
Fábrica do Terror is an information portal about Horror made in Portugal.

Guests

In 2023, we had several directors, actors and producers from all over the world. We highlight the presence of director Brandon Cronenberg, who presented a retrospective of his work and gave a well-attended masterclass. From India, Anurag Kashiap came to present his latest noir epic “Kennedy”. Premiering worldwide, the Turkish Orçun Behram presented his “The Funeral” and the French Saïd Belktibia his “Hood Witch”. In the national contingent we had the presence of Gabriel Abrantes for the European premiere of his first horror film “A Semente do Mal”. Also presente were José Nascimento, director of “Tarde Demais” and producer Stefanie Coimbra for the premiere of the Portuguese co-production “ Lovely, Dark and Deep”. And we also had a significant Brazilian presence with the national premieres of “Estranho Caminho”, presented by director Guto Parente, and “Propriedade” by Daniel Bandeira, the latter also one of the judges for the GUIÕES MOTELX Award. And for GUIÕES, also present at Cinema São Jorge was Rodrigo Teixeira, the most international Brazilian producer today, who worked with Greta Gerwig, Luca Guadagnino, James Gray and mainly Robert Eggers, which occasioned a special screening of “The Witch”, their first collaboration. The British Paris Zarcilla also came to present his “Racing Grace”.
