Margot is a young medical student who has always dreamt of doing her clinical training in France’s most challenging and demanding ER department. Exhausted by the physical and psychological pressure of the competition, things take a turn for the worse when she encounters young patients exhibiting bizarre symptoms and inexplicable physical conditions. Although the cases are dismissed by her supervisor, her own body begins to succumb to a bloody and visceral viral illness that drives her to investigate something far greater than herself. An allegory for burnout and the (apparently endless) physical and mental violence that the capitalist system inflicts on Gen Z, this feature film by Marion Le Corroller evokes the body horror films of her compatriots, Julia Ducournau and Coralie Fargeat, and premiered in the Midnight section at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
