Fresh out of prison, a former soldier tries to rebuild his life in a small town in the United States, but soon finds himself confronted by structural racism, police violence and a community determined to keep him in a place that has been forced upon him. When the abuses reach a breaking point, the quest for justice turns into a relentless spiral of revenge. Written and directed by RZA, “One Spoon of Chocolate” blends a revenge thriller with social horror and exploitation cinema, recapturing the combative energy of 1970s blaxploitation to tackle racial inequality and institutional violence within the United States. Amidst moments of extreme brutality and political commentary, the film stands out as one of the most incendiary works of the Wu-Tang Clan founder’s career, echoing the films “Kill Bill” and “Django Unchained” by its producer, Quentin Tarantino.
