Mary, like many millennials, leads a rather meaningless life until an unexpected (and frankly bizarre) relationship with her new neighbor ends in an unusual way: she finds herself pregnant with an alien. As her body undergoes a bizarre metamorphosis, she faces doctors who dismiss her symptoms, a co-parent unable to take on responsibilities, and an overly meddlesome mother. Expanding on the 2024 short film, “Help, I’m Alien Pregnant,” the New Zealand duo THUNDERLIPS makes its feature film debut with an explosive combination of body horror, science fiction, and comedy, where scatological humor coexists with a reflection on bodily autonomy, pregnancy, and motherhood—a film that entertained the audience in the Midnight section at the Sundance Film Festival.
