Jackal Lam’s gang and the police commissioner steal a shipment of illegal gold belonging to Tiger Wong. To recover the gold and get his revenge, Tiger hires the vigilante Frank Chan, who quickly discovers that Jackal Lam may be leading an underground arms-trafficking ring—violence is about to erupt. In Portugal, the film premiered with the original Mandarin audio but with completely different subtitles, full of references to current Portuguese social and political issues. The characters’ names were replaced with puns inspired by local slang, such as Chan-Frado, Shin-Fli-Tico, Chun-Goso, Sha-De-Ti-Lia, and Sho-Riço. The result was a hilarious satire, promoted as “Portuguese-Style Kung Fu,” with the famous slogan: “1001 ways of kicking ass.”
