Leigh Whannell Special

Leigh Whannell, creator of the “Saw” and “Insidious” franchises, comes to MOTELX to present his latest film “Upgrade” and the Festival will mark this event with two more special screenings. First, the third part of “Insidious”, in which Whannell debuted as a director, a prequel to the original. Then, we invited the director to choose an Australian film that has influenced him, for an unprecedented carte blanche. Both screenings will be presented by Leigh Whannell.

Leigh Whannell, a native of Australia, became known when he partnered with his childhood friend James Wan in 2004 to release the first “Saw”, a worldwide box office success that would give rise to a franchise that lasts until today. “Insidious” followed, another great success of the duo, in which Whannell is again credited as scriptwriter and actor, having made his debut as a director in “Insidious: Chapter 3”. With Wan diverging to major studio projects such as “Furious 7”, Whannell maintained an independent status and has just completed “Upgrade”, a film with the seal of production company Blumhouse.
