MOTELX is one of the festivals invited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Portuguese Short Film Agency with carte blanche to Portuguese filmmakers and invited João Pedro Rodrigues to participate in this showcase of Portuguese cinema.

As part of the celebration of its 20th anniversary, the Agency presents the "Carte Blanche to Portuguese Filmmakers", which, over the course of a year, will run through the various film festivals with screenings that celebrate national cinematography of the 21st century.

The Carte Blanche to the Filmmakers will be a showcase of Portuguese cinema by inviting those who think about cinema in its origin - the creators - and place them in the role of programmers and curate a journey through national cinema with short film screenings. The choice of each one of these directors is of the host festival's responsibility, and the filmmaker is challenged to present critical and inventive Portuguese films narrated by himself to his peers, where there will be room to reflect on the significant changes that have been made in Portuguese cinema in the new century, in its perceived profile in Portugal and beyond borders (among which the legitimation of the short film format), the diversity of approaches and paths followed by national creators, their relationships and complicity.

This celebration began on 14 April, at the Luso-Brazilian Festival in Santa Maria da Feira and will also include other festivals such as Fest in Espinho, Doc Lisboa, Cinanima, Cortex, or Monstra. The screening with João Pedro Rodrigues will take place during MOTELX's 13th edition, 10 to 15 September 2019.
