Home Invasion

Home Invasion

A film by Graeme Arnfield

UK, 2023, 92'

With its round format, its alarming soundtrack and use of strange yet familiar footage, Graeme Arnfield’s “Home Invasion” breaks the cinematic mould. Made in bed - according to the author - this film is an essay on the history of the doorbell, tracing its invention and constant reinventions throughout the labour struggles of the 19th century, the early years of cinema and the contemporary culture of surveillance. Premiered at the Berlinale Forum Expanded 2023, this is the first feature film by Arnfield who, trained in Experimental Cinema, uses different models of investigative storytelling to explore themes such as ecology, technology and history. Unsafe space, fear of technology, haunting gaze of surveillance, horror has never been so real.
