In 2016, MOTELX opened with "Don't Breathe" by M. Night Shyamalan, had Ruggero Deodato as its guest of honor and invited Mick Garris back for the 10th year anniversary, and challenged its audience once again to produce Micro SHORTS, short films filmed entirely with a mobile phone.
"Post-Mortem", by Belmiro Ribeiro, won the MOTELX Award for Best Portuguese Horror Short, while "The Noonday Witch" by Jiri Sádek won Best European Feature Film.

Once again, this year's poster was made by BY, with photography by That Image and actor Guilherme Barroso as D. Sebastião.
The festival's spot was produced by Take It Easy and directed by Jerónimo Rocha.
