The Portuguese Cultural Center of Luxembourg celebrates 25 years and renews its partnership with MOTELX - Lisbon International Horror Film Festival for a
Special Screening of one of the most notable films in recent Portuguese horror cinema,"
Amelia's Children" (2024), by Gabriel Abrantes, the multimedia artist and filmmaker who won the Golden Leopard for short films at the Locarno Festival for "A History of Mutual Respect" (2010) and the Grand Prize at the Cannes Critics' Week by "Diamantino" (2018).
When Edward's search for his biological family takes him and his girlfriend, Ryley, to a magnificent villa high in the mountains of northern Portugal, the man is thrilled to meet his long-lost mother and twin brother. Finally, he will be able to discover who you are and where you come from. But nothing is as it seems, and Edward will soon discover that he is bound to them by a monstrous secret. It is the first foray into horror of one of the safe values of national cinema. Abrantes, a plural and always surprising creator, presents a more classic horror film around the mystery of family origins, investigating the Portuguese canon of countryside vs. city. Carloto Cotta, in a double role, Alba Baptista and Anabela Moreira, in a very challenging part, make up the cast.
As part of the Luxembourg Portuguese Film Festival and with the support of Camões Institute, the session will take place next Thursday, November 14th, at 8:30 pm, at the
Cinemateca do Luxembourg.
