MOTELX named one of the 50 film festivals worth the entry fee, according to MovieMaker

MOTELX has been included in MovieMaker Magazine's 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee 2026 — a distinction recognising the festivals that offer the most value to filmmakers.
MOTELX – Lisbon International Horror Film Festival has been included in the 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee 2026 list, published annually by the American magazine MovieMaker, one of the leading publications for independent film professionals.

The distinction recognises festivals that offer real value to the filmmakers who attend: quality programming, cash prizes, opportunities to connect with distributors and industry professionals, and a healthy balance between the number of submissions and selected films.

On MOTELX, MovieMaker highlights the sense of community that defines the Festival — centred around the Cinema São Jorge, with no VIP barriers, and open to filmmakers, fans and industry professionals alike.

Also mentioned are the MOTELQuiz, the Dark Sunset parties, the open-air screenings and the panels covering a wide range of filmmaking topics. The publication also notes the cash prizes on offer, particularly the one dedicated to the best Portuguese horror shorts.

Being here, alongside some of the world's great festivals, is only possible thanks to the film teams, industry professionals, everyone who makes MOTELX happen — and above all, the audiences who, over these 20 years, have brought horror cinema to life. Thank you.
The 20th edition of MOTELX takes place from 3 to 13 September 2026, in Lisbon.
