MOTELX GUIÕES Award 2024: The five finalists are now known!

GUIÕES - Portuguese Language Roadmap Festival takes place for the second year running during MOTELX and celebrates its 10th edition from 11th to 13th September, also at Cinema São Jorge.
"Tristão", by São José Correia, “Espectro”, by Catarina Araújo, “Estática”, by Pedro Nora, “Soberana”, by Rafael Santos, and “E o Diabo q'o Carregue!”, by Lili Pereira, are the five titles competing for the MOTELX GUIÕES 2024 Award, chosen from 40 proposals in feature film format by the selection team of both festivals.

Focussed on giving an opportunity to new talents and authors who want to develop horror projects, the prize with a monetary value of €2,000 is awarded to the creation chosen by a panel of judges made up of Fernanda Polacow (screenwriter, director and script consultant), Carlos Silva (writer and promoter of speculative fiction) and Rita Roberto (screenwriter).

The verdict will be revealed in the late afternoon of 11 September, in Room 2 of Cinema São Jorge, at the GUIÕES - Portuguese Language Screenplay Festival Awards Ceremony, which will take place right in the middle of MOTELX. Regarding the finalists, MOTELX's artistic directors Pedro Souto and João Monteiro say that they ‘bring to life the macabre imagination of these new authors and focus on subjects from Portuguese daily life without ever straying into simply copying foreign models’.

The programmers of the Festival, whose 18th edition runs from 10 to 16 September, look to the future and point to the five scripts as ‘an example of what national horror fiction could be on paper and on screen’, also highlighting ‘the majority presence of women screenwriters’ among the nominations.

In addition to the MOTELX GUIÕES Award, the two festivals are renewing their partnership with a simultaneous cross-programme.  GUIÕES returns to MOTELX from 11 to 13 September, in its 10th edition, with pitching sessions for Portuguese-language audiovisual projects, debates and masterclasses.
