"Hundreds of Beavers" + "Meat Puppet" ticket giveaway, with Passos no Escuro
We walk with Passos no Escuro once again, and we gave away tickets for the screening of "Hundreds of Beavers", by Mike Cheslik, preceded by the award-winning short film "Meat Puppet", on April 23, at 10 pm, at the emblematic Passos Manuel (Porto). Check out the winners.
MOTELX is moving forward with Passos no Escuro, dedicated to the mission of projecting "cult cinema on the big screen at Passos Manuel" which has united the Lisbon International Horror Film Festival with our fellow cinephiles from the Invicta city. In this, our fourth collaboration, we launched a new competition to give away 2 double tickets for the screening of one of the most unusual fantasy comedies of recent years: "Hundreds of Beavers" (2002), a strange and funny filmic object written and directed by Mike Cheslik, which glorifies the titular rodents, adorable "engineers of nature", in an unexpected black-and-white slapstick style, combining the grace of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin's cinema with the naturalistic curiosity of a David Attenborough.
The film will be shown in the 13th session of Season 5 of Passos no Escuro programming, on April 23, 2025, 10 pm, at the iconic Passos Manuel space, in Porto. It will be preceded by the short film "Meat Puppet", by Eros V, which, at the last 18th edition of MOTELX, won the Méliès d’argent Award for Best European Short Film 2024.
To be eligible to win, participants had to follow the Facebook and Instagram pages of MOTELX and Passos no Escuro, and be the first to correctly answer the question indicated in the competition post, sending the answer to the email «passatempos@motelx.org», along with their name and ID/CC number.

An alcoholic fur trapper loses everything in a snowstorm. He wakes up in a frozen world, surrounded by… beavers. Lots of beavers. Hundreds of beavers! And other equally furious creatures. To survive, he'll have to learn to hunt, build traps, and master the absurd rules of a cartoon world.
Presented in all its black and white glory, with no dialogue and effects worthy of Looney Tunes, this was the real surprise film of recent years, premiered at Fantastic Fest on September 29, 2022 and received with critical acclaim and numerous awards. Several publications listed the film among the ten best of the year. Cheslik and Tews rejected distribution offers made to them due to limited release schedules and instead distributed their film themselves, with the original theatrical run grossing over six times its production budget. It was released on video on demand on April 15, 2024.
