Tremors

A film by Ron Underwood

USA, 1990, 96'

In a small desert town in Nevada, the daily routine is abruptly shattered by the arrival of creatures lurking beneath the ground. Nicknamed “graboids,” these predators surface only to wreak havoc, picking off the locals one by one. Gliding effortlessly between genres—horror, buddy comedy, and science fiction—this loving homage to the creature features of the 1950s climbed to cult status thanks to its generous dose of self-awareness, practical effects (the kind they just don’t make anymore), and an unshakable refusal to become anything it’s not. With Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward leading the charge and Ron Underwood behind the camera, the film still holds a place of honor in the B-movie pantheon, decades after its release.
