The Witch

The Witch

A film by Robert Eggers

USA, Canada, 2016, 92'

In 17th-century New England, a family moves (after a religious disagreement in their Puritan settlement) to a land near an isolated and dark forest. But one day, baby Samuel mysteriously disappears while Thomasin (played by Anya Taylor-Joy), William and Katherine's eldest daughter, plays with him. This is the beginning of a series of bizarre events that somehow relate to an evil presence that dwells in the forest and gradually destroys each of the family members.
Directed by Robert Eggers, known for the films "The Lighthouse" and "The Northman", "The Witch" involves us in a psychological terror installed through a slow pace disturbing environment, decorated with contrasting elements between the patriarchal repression of Puritanism and the morbid and violent freedom of witches.
