Ana’s life is shattered by the sudden death of her husband. Without Jorge and despite the presence of their teenage son, the former pianist lives a lonely life on her secluded estate in Alentejo. As she tries to navigate the winding path of grief and acceptance, she is surprised by a call from a cloning company informing her that Jorge had hired them before he died. Consumed by doubts, Ana eventually gives in to her desire to be reunited with her husband, even if it means trading reality for artifice. To complicate matters, Ana also discovers that Jorge may have been involved in the disappearance of several local girls. The family reunion dredges up old demons and reveals the impossibility of grasping a future that belongs to no one. The prolific Nuno Bernardo embraces genre cinema in a thriller that contrasts timelessness with futurism to explore a dilemma intensified by technology: Is a life without end truly a life at all?
