The Crime of Aldeia Velha

A film by Manuel Guimarães

Portugal, 1964, 105'

Adapted from a play by Bernardo Santareno, which in turn was inspired by a true story that occurred in the north of the country in 1908. The story of a woman who believes she is possessed and is burned at the stake by the villagers as a form of exorcism after two men committed suicide for her love. A rebuke against superstition in one of Manuel Guimarães's most compelling films.
