In 1933, Marco de Canaveses, the events that would would originate "O Crime deAldeia Velha" took place. Arminda de Jesus Pereira was beaten with quince sticks and burned alive in the open. Her neighbors believed she was possessed by the devil and that she would rise again, free of sin, the next morning.
