Opus

A film by Mark Anthony Green

USA, 2025, 104'

Ariel (Ayo Edebiri), an eager new journalist, travels to the retreat of Alfred Moretti (John Malkovich), a 1990s pop superstar whose whereabouts have been unknown for nearly three decades. Intending to hear his new album, and in the company of other hand-selected guests, Ariel finds herself trapped within a cult she feels compelled to investigate. The debut of director Mark Anthony Green, himself a journalist and editor at American magazine GQ, and under the A24 banner, also features names such as the charismatic Juliette Lewis and veteran Tony Hale. In a feature film that denounces the unusual obsession with fame — "There's no cult like celebrity," warns us the auspicious logline — hides a bloody plot that promises to delight the most ardent fans of murder mysteries and whodunits. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year.
