Misery

A film by Rob Reiner

USA, 1990, 107'

The famous writer Paul Sheldon (James Caan) suffers a car accident and is rescued by nurse Annie (Kathy Bates), who claims to be his number one fan. She takes him to her isolated home to care for his health, but one day she gains access to the original manuscript of the writer’s next book and discovers that her favorite character will be killed. This revelation triggers the emergence of her hidden personality. Rob Reiner, the eternal hippie son-in-law of Archie Bunker in “All in the Family”, reaches a high point in his career with this second adaptation of Stephen King’s work following “Stand by Me”. A true duel of performances between Caan and Bates, which earned the latter a well-deserved Academy Award for Best Actress in 1990.
