Lovely, Dark, and Deep

Lovely, Dark, and Deep

A film by Teresa Sutherland

USA, 2023, 87'

In this bold, psychological horror, Lennon (Georgina Campbell of “Barbarian”) gets the opportunity to fill the coveted position of a back-country ranger on an isolated outpost. As she settles into life amongst the wilderness, she soon realises that something sinister is lurking. Needing answers, Lennon decides to travel through the ominous wilderness hoping to uncover the origins of a tragedy that has haunted her since she was a child. "Lovely, Dark, and Deep" plays with the conspiracy theories about the ridiculous number of people who disappear every year without a trace from natural parks and other bizarre occurrences. Shot in Portugal, this new film by Teresa Sutherland draws on a cosmic mysticism that is effectively conveyed through Rui Poças' cinematography, which captures the beauty of preserved nature.
