Diana is taken by her husband to a remote clinic, where she is to undergo experimental treatments designed to help her overcome trauma. Having just awakened from a coma, she can’t recall the exact reasons that brought her to this place. As the treatments progress, strange side effects begin to emerge. Though she’s told she’s improving rapidly, Diana finds herself increasingly unable to recognize the person she’s becoming. Panic begins to take hold as she starts to notice bizarre changes in her husband’s behavior. Fact and fiction, truth and artifice — these are the potent ingredients that shape this haunting meditation on the strength and fragility of memory. Following “Violation” (MOTELX’21), Canadian duo Madeleine Sims-Fewer and Dusty Mancinelli craft a stunning tribute to the aesthetic and spirit of 1970s horror, making us ache for everything time allows — but does not crystalize.
