Maddie and Frank are awakened by a call from their teenage daughter: Alice has just accidentally hit a stranger in the woods. The parents have contrasting opinions on how to resolve the situation and, as they rush to the scene of the accident, they begin to have reason to believe they are not alone on the road. British-Iranian filmmaker Babak Anvari, winner of a BAFTA for “Under the Shadow,” treats us to a tremendously effective thriller, where minimalism and restraint translate into a race against time, marked by the suggestion of horrors waiting to be revealed. Bringing William Gillies' debut screenplay to life — confined mostly to the interior of a car and unfolding in real time — are Rosamund Pike (“Gone Girl”) and Matthew Rhys (“The Americans”), both in extraordinary form.
