Dragonfly

A film by Paul Andrew Williams

United Kingdom, 2025, 98'

Elsie, an elderly woman living alone, is recovering from a fall. When her neighbour Colleen notices the precarious care provided by nurses from a private agency, she decides to volunteer her help. Gradually, the unlikely friendship that blossoms between the two women begins to raise suspicions among those around them. Eschewing clichés and defying expectations, the latest film from British director Paul Andrew Williams resists categorisation, moving from the world of social realism — evocative of Mike Leigh — into the simmering violence of loneliness. Brenda Blethyn (“Secrets & Lies”), twice Oscar-nominated, and Andrea Riseborough (“Possessor”) deliver outstanding performances in this encounter between two souls on the edge—ready to embark on a journey that unleashes the imagination, without warning and beyond the point of return.
