Antiviral

Antiviral

A film by Brandon Cronenberg

Canada, 2012, 108'

Syd works for the Lucas Clinic, a company which purchases viruses from celebrities to inject into their  clients - fans who are willing to do everything to feel closer to their idols. When he tries to smuggle a blood-sample from the popular, Hannah Geist, Syd becomes infected with the virus that killed her. To survive the spreading of the disease and being hunted down by the traffic organisation and Hannah’s legion of fans, Syd must unravel the obscure mystery behind her death. In his first feature-film, which competed in the Un Certain Regard section of The Cannes Film Festival 2012, Brandon Cronenberg follows the stylistic footsteps of his father, David Cronenberg, director of “Shivers” and “The Fly”, and inaugurates a working program in disturbing sci-fi body horrors, in this case, in a piercing critique to modern society and its celebrity cult.
