MOTELX will join the community of 45 film festivals receiving a FIAPF accreditation (for example, Berlin, Cannes, and Venice are a part of this organization in different categories). The accreditation acts as a quality label for international film festivals that meet minimum standards decided by the film producers’ community worldwide – e.g. relating to their operations, infrastructures, promotion of the films selected, insurances, measures against piracy, etc. Operating as a trust contract between the international film festivals and the film industry, the FIAPF accreditation secures transparency and consideration between all the parties involved when a film is launched through a festival’s platform.

The 36 national film producers organisations from 29 countries on four world continents gathered within the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) unanimously voted the accreditation of MOTELX – Lisbon International Horror Film Festival as a “competitive Film Festival specialised in horror films (features, shorts and documentaries)” from 2017 with an “associate- festival” status for the first two years.

“With this decision, FIAPF acknowledges the rapid development of MOTELX and wishes to support its ambition to become an important platform for genre films with already an increasing number of industry practitioners over the past years. Through this accreditation, FIAPF recognizes MOTELX’s commitments and professionalism in putting the artistic and economic interests of the films first. In an environment that is increasingly competitive, it will give responsibility and new opportunities for MOTELX – Lisbon International Horror Film Festival to boost its image and secure extra promotion within the global film industry.” said Benoit Ginisty, FIAPF’s Chief Representative.

“MOTELX is extremely honoured to receive this exclusive accreditation from FIAPF. To be the only Portuguese festival to receive this seal of excellence is of extreme importance to continue the work that has been done throughout the years. Positioning itself as a unique platform for films that would not be exhibited/promoted otherwise, MOTELX will continue to encourage Portuguese directors to contribute to the international panorama of horror film industry.” said Pedro Souto, MOTELX’s director.

MOTELX is heading to its 11th edition (5-10 September 2017). In the past years, the Festival has conquered a very relevant positioning in the international circuit of genre film festivals and is one of the most expected and highlighted cultural events of the year in Lisbon. In 2016, MOTELX reached an audience around 20,000 people in only 6 days at Cinema São Jorge and Teatro Tivoli, the oldest and most famous local movie theatres. Past guests include names as George A. Romero, Stuart Gordon, John Landis, Coffin Joe, Eli Roth, Brian Yuzna, Dario Argento, Hideo Nakata, Tobe Hooper, among others.

This year, on top of the regular selection of the best horror films produced worldwide and regular events throughout the duration of the Festival, MOTELX is partnering with the Ibero-American Capital of Culture initiative that takes place in Lisbon during 2017. It will present a retrospective of Ibero-American genre films, and thus contribute to the cinematic content of the event’s programme. All this, in a continuous effort to increase its prominence internationally.

MOTELX will be the third accredited Film Festival specialised in genre films along with Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia (Spain), and Noir In Festival (Italy).
