On April 30, MOTELX will be in Ílhavo for a special screening of the film "Green Room" and two Portuguese shorts, "Post-Mortem" and "Macabre".

Invited by the 23 Milhas project, launched by the Ílhavo City Hall in late 2016, MOTELX will schedule a special screening that retrieves Jeremy Saulnier's exciting "Green Room" (USA, 2015), which played at MOTELX in an unforgettable screening filled with tension.

Portuguese cinema will be present with Belmiro Ribeiro's "Post-Mortem" (Portugal, 2016), the film that won last year's MOTELX Award - Best Portuguese Horror Short Film, and "Macabre" (Portugal, 2016) by Jerónimo Rocha and João Miguel Real. Both films will be presented by their directors who will stay for a discussion with the audience, at the end of the screening, along with the Festival's directors and programmers.

Green Room
The Ain’t Rights, a punk four-piece on the final days of a failed concert tour, get more than they bargained for when they accept a shady last-minute gig at an isolated venue, in the wilds of Oregon. After walking in on a murder scene, they find themselves trapped in the back-stage green room by a gang of violent white supremacists ruthlessly determined to eliminate all witnesses.

Premiered at the Directors Fortnight in Cannes, this film marked MOTELX's 2015 edition, in one of the mythical midnight screenings. The critics called Saulnier “one of the most exciting genre directors around” and the film a “cult hit”.

Macabre
K just hit his Mercedes-Benz against a tree shortly after avoiding killing a small animal that crossed his path. He is on a still country road and the night is pitch black. The night is just beginning...

"Macabre" is an animated short that since its premiere has gone through several festivals in Portugal and abroad, collecting several awards such as Best Animated Short Film in the South African Horrorfest 2016 and Best Animation at the Buried Alive Film Fest 2016.

Post-Mortem
Edgar is a jaded photographer. One evening he witnesses a mur-
der. The culprit escapes. Edgar, instead of helping the victim, becomes mesmerised by the expression of pure terror in her face.

Belmiro Ribeiro, a young filmmaker, won the MOTELX Award - Best Portuguese Horror Short Film 2016 with "Post-Mortem" last year. The jury, composed by José Luis Peixoto, Shelagh Rowan-Legg and Filomena Cautela, considered that the film "with an excellent sound and photographic work, added to an eloquent use of the black and white, "Post-Mortem" presents us with a story of macabre subtlety, with a competent cast interpretation".
