Lately, luck hasn't been on the side of Laura Franco (Melissa Barrera), an aspiring actress from New York who, as if her painful recovery from cancer wasn't enough, is trying to survive the end of her relationship with Jacob. We don't know much about Jacob: we know that in another life he would've drowned in a Greek lake trying to kiss his own reflection and that he's about to premiere his first play on Broadway. A play co-written by Laura and designed for her to star in. But – surprise – not only is she not credited, she's not even invited by her ex-boyfriend to the casting call. Abandoned by everyone, Laura goes into a hermit spiral of self-pity (and cupcakes). In a world of beasts, she has only one company left: the (charming) Monster in her wardrobe. Premiered on the midnights of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, this revenge rom-com – reminiscent of "Black Swan" meets "Beauty and The Beast" – guarantees a true symphony of emotions.
