Veins

Nervures

A film by Raymond St-Jean

Canada, USA, France, 2025, 96'

Isabelle travels with her girlfriend to Saint-Étienne, a small, almost abandoned town, to visit her parents. Upon arriving, she discovers that her father died a few days earlier and has already been buried — without anyone bothering to tell her. Her mother and uncle’s vague explanations only raise more questions, especially when Isabelle begins to notice her mother’s strange behaviour and unexplained changes in her body. The presence of Dr. Hubert, who claims to have discovered a miraculous cure for extreme illnesses and pain, appears to be connected to the secret the family is trying to hide. Directed by Raymond St-Jean, “Veins” is a body horror mystery about grief, transformation and the difficulty of accepting death. Which echoes H. P. Lovecraft and Cronenberg. Premiered at the Black Nights Film Festival.
