A pair of earrings that mysteriously appear and disappear is the starting point for a fantastic adventure: a mix between the distant past and the present, a grandmother who wants to regain her youth through vampire-ish practises alongside an ever-youthful man who also needs human blood. A man who claims to be Valerie’s father. Valerie’s story is set on the edge of dreams. Contact with reality is made when a carriage arrives with Valerie’s real parents, who pick her and her grandmother up to take them away. The great cult classic of Czech cinema was, for the SNI, a film “full of problems” because “(the film) is itself an attack on religious institutions”. The distributor Castello Lopes was not satisfied with this judgement and wrote a long letter questioning this “vague” and “unproven” criteria.
