Police Captain Franck de Rolan is about to investigate a series of child disappearances in a small French village in the mountains, where he crosses paths with Commander Guardiano, who is, in turn, investigating murders in the same area. These intertwined cases keep bringing up references to a terrible local legend, the supernatural “Soul Eater”. Of the French horror cinema generation that emerged in the first decade of this century, the Bustillo/Maury duo have been the only ones to build a solid career in the country. “The Soul Eater” is the foray of the authors of “Inside”, “Livid”, and “Deep House” into the investigative crime thriller style of “Se7en”, with a luxury cast: Paul Hamy (“The Ornithologist”), Virginie Ledoyen (“The Beach”), and veteran Sandrine Bonnaire (“The Ceremony”).
