The Sadness

哭悲 (Kū Bēi)

A film by Rob Jabbaz

Taiwan, 2021, 99'

After a year of fighting a pandemic with relatively benign symptoms, a frustrated nation has finally let its guard down. This is when the virus mutates spontaneously, giving rise to a mind-altering pest. The streets erupt in violence and depravity as the infected are driven to the cruellest and horrific acts imaginable. Murder, torture, rape and mutilation are just the beginning. A young couple is taken to the edge of sanity as they try to find each other in the midst of chaos. The era of civility and order is gone. There is only "The Sadness". From Taiwan comes the most intense and violent film of this edition, “The Sadness” assumes itself as the “28 Days Later” of the COVID era, in the feature debut of Canadian Rob Jabbaz, based in Taiwan. Scheduled to premiere at the Locarno Film Festival.
