The Hole in the Ground

The Hole in the Ground

A film by Lee Cronin

Ireland, Belgium, Finland, 2019, 90'

Trying to escape a broken past, Sarah is rebuilding her life on the fringes of a rural town with her young son, Chris. Following the discovery of a mysterious sinkhole in the forest bordering their new home, Sarah must find out if the disturbing changes that begin to manifest in Chris are a transformation driven by something more sinister and threatening than her own maternal fears. In the feature debut of Lee Cronin, winner of the 2014 Méliès d’Argent with the short “Ghost Train”, horror doesn’t come out only from a strange hole in the dark forest but also from domestic circumstances. With nods to Kubrick’s “The Shining”, the script draws inspiration from folklore and mythology.
World premiere early this year at the Sundance Film Festival.
