The Father’s Shadow

A Sombra do Pai

A film by Gabriela Amaral Almeida

Brazil, 2018, 92'

Dalva is a nine-year-old girl whose family situation keeps getting worse. Her mother died three years ago, her father sinks into his depression with the death of a friend during a work accident, and her aunt Cristina, who until now has been helping run the house, announces that she is getting married and about to move away. As her father becomes increasingly absent and dangerous, Dalva is sure to have the solution to bring her mom back: her supernatural powers. “The Father's Shadow” is the second feature by Brazilian film director Gabriela Amaral Almeida, who ventures once again in the horror genre, with a mix of drama and fantasy, exploring the inversion of roles between a father and a daughter in a proletarian neighbourhood of São Paulo.
