In the near future, humanity has finally solved the problem of ageing, making death a choice. For Claire, a former provocative artist approaching her 250th birthday, this technological breakthrough has made existence unbearably repetitive. On her birthday, she decides she’s had enough and turns her own death into her final work of art. Her decision sets off conflicts with her husband, Diego, her daughter Martha and Sarah, her AI assistant, forcing Claire to confront the relationships she has built over two and a half centuries. Starring Rebecca Hall in the lead, alongside Noomi Rapace, Gael García Bernal and Beanie Feldstein, “The End of It” is a darkly humorous sci-fi about mortality, technology, our relationship with our own bodies, beauty, art and the absurdity of wanting to live forever. It is Maria Martínez Bayona’s feature directorial debut and premiered at Cannes.
