National Premiere | With Guest - Sokyou Chea (Director) | Session 1
Following the death of her mother, Japanese-Cambodian manga artist Sorya decides to travel to Cambodia along with her boyfriend, in the hopes of finding out more about the country her mother fled and, maybe, some inspiration for her first book. Upon arriving in Phnom Penh, the young couple reunites with Sorya’s lost family and moves into the apartment where her mother used to live, in an old brutalist building. As she tries to find out more about her past, she’s confronted with strange events that hint at something darker going on with the residents. What at first appears to be over-caring considerations towards the newcomers, soon turns out to be part of a ritual. The residents are preparing a new host for the building’s evil spirit before it starts killing again. This supernatural thriller about family roots and identity is the first feature film by the duo of Sokyou Chea and Inrasothythep Neth.
