Speak No Evil

A film by Christian Tafdrup

Denmark, The Netherlands, 2021, 97'

During a trip to Tuscany, a Danish couple meets a Dutch family that, months later, invites them to spend a weekend at their house. It doesn't take long until the joy of the reunion is replaced with misunderstandings. Things become gradually weirder when the Dutch start behaving in a strange way, very different from what they seemed to initially be. The story is inspired by a real-life encounter between director Christian Tafdrup and his girlfriend and a creepy dutch couple who invited them to spend a weekend at their house. In real life, they declined, but their imagination wondered what the worst scenario could be. The worst possible outcome is explored in "Speak No Evil", where the erratic and eccentric hosts harbour secret and sinister intentions, testing every limit of the famous Nordic politeness.
