So Unreal

So Unreal

New documentary by Amanda Kramer (“Please Baby Please” and “Ladyworld”): a playful, simultaneously historical and philosophical exploration of the representation of cyberspace and computer-generated reality in lesser-known low-budget films – the so-called B-movies – that have been released over the last 40 years. In spite of the long sequences about the famous “Matrix”, “Tron”, “The Terminator”, and “Hackers”, it's the films we barely remember that steal the show with their giant monsters from the atomic age and gods made of artificial intelligence. Remember “Electric Dreams” (1984), a film about a love triangle between a man, a woman and a computer? Sounds familiar?... Narrated by pop culture icon Debbie Harry (star of David Cronenberg's mind-blowing “Videodrome” and lead singer of Blondie), the film examines cinema as a vehicle for humanity's fear, anxiety, euphoria, and obsession with emerging technology at the end of the millennium.
