France, 2039. Adèle Exarchopoulos (“The Life of Adèle”, “Animal Kingdom”) plays a climate activist who mysteriously disappears after a protest turns violent. After being shot in the eye by a firearm, she falls unconscious and wakes up in an unknown world. The titular Planet B is described as the first virtual prison, where prisoners are held in the form of an avatar of themselves. Julia’s only chance of salvation lies with a refugee, played by Souheila Yacoub (“Dune: Part Two” and “Climax”). With the growing imprisonment of international activists, this eco-horror, premiered at the International Critics‘ Week in Venice, marks Aude Léa Rapin’s continuation in feature films after “Heroes Don’t Die”, presented at the 2019 Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, this time in a treat of solidarity with those fighting for the salvation of planet A.
