Nightborn

Yön lapsi

A film by Hanna Bergholm

Finland, 2026, 92'

Saga and her British husband, Jon, move into her old family home, isolated in the Finnish forests, hoping to build the perfect family. After the birth of their baby, however, Saga begins to suspect that something is deeply wrong with her child. Despite the reassurances of those around her, the mother cannot ignore the baby’s unsettling behaviour and appearance. As the marriage begins to crumble under the weight of doubt, Saga becomes increasingly isolated and is forced to question whether what she feels is maternal instinct or paranoia. Directed by Hanna Bergholm, the filmmaker behind Hatching, “Nightborn” is a body horror tale about motherhood, birth and the less photogenic side of unconditional love. Starring Seidi Haarla and Rupert Grint, it premiered in competition at the Berlinale.
