A team of investigators sets out to look into a series of strange events connected to a house in a rural region of Kinki, Japan. As they collect testimonies, documents, recordings and seemingly unrelated footage, they begin to realise that something is deeply wrong with the place and that different accounts appear to point towards the same presence. The investigation gradually turns into a web of impossible stories, where it is no longer clear what is documentation, staged material or reality. Directed by Kōji Shiraishi (“Noroi: The Curse”, “House of Sayuri”) and inspired by the book “About a Place in the Kinki Region”, which contains a compilation of stories of the region, “Kinki” turns to found footage and fake documentary conventions to build a horror mystery that keeps us on the edge of our seat until the very end.
