Ali Abbasi, director of "Border" and "Shelley" — which brought him to MOTELX in 2016 —, is back with "Holy Spider". Rahimi is a journalist who descends into the underbelly of the Iranian holy city of Mashhad to investigate the serial killings of sex workers by the so-called "Spider Killer", who believes he is cleansing the streets of sinners, Jack Ripper style. Abbasi treads the streets of Mashhad to retell the true story of Saeed Hannei who, between 2000 and 2001 haunted the city, killing around 19 women. "Holy Spider'' had its European premiere at the 75th edition of Cannes, where Zar Amir Ebrahimi received the Prix d'Interprétation Féminin and, coincidentally or not, was stage to one of the protests of this edition against femicide. "Holy Spider" has its Portuguese premiere at MOTELX.
