The kingdom of Abraxeon is under the rule of the Dreadites, followers of the sorcerer Nekromemnon, when a warrior known as Deathstalker discovers an enchanted amulet on a battlefield strewn with corpses. Under the influence of the object’s dark magic and pursued by a clan of monstrous assassins, he must now break the curse and confront the evil threatening the kingdom. From Steven Kostanski, master of special effects and director of “The Void” and “Psycho Goreman”, this remake of the 1983 Roger Corman-produced classic of the same name shamelessly embraces the delirious spirit of 1980s B-movie fantasy. With ogres, blood, metal and plenty of gooey stuff, “Deathstalker” chooses fun over solemnity and reminds us that, sometimes, the best way to revisit a classic is not to take it too seriously.
