In a skyscraper in the centre of Seoul, a scientist working for a biotech company injects a mysterious virus into its CEO, who in turn spreads it throughout the building at rapid-fire speed. Initially crawling and with animalistic features, the infected begin to evolve, walking on two legs, recognising the few remaining survivors and, worse still, planning their attacks. Led by biotechnology professor Kwon Se-jeong, a group of survivors attempts to reach the rooftop, where a rescue team is waiting, but the man claiming to possess the vaccine appears to have other plans. Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the mastermind behind the box-office hit “Train to Busan”, “Colony” marks a return to the zombie genre, reinventing it through creatures that share a hive-mind type of consciousness while rekindling fears surrounding hyperconnectivity and artificial intelligence.
