Film censor Enid prides herself on her meticulous work, protecting the unwary public from the damaging effects of watching the blood-drenched decapitations and eyeball leaks she examines. Her sense of “protection” is amplified by the guilt of being unable to remember details from the disappearance of her sister, who was recently declared dead, even though her corpse was never found. When Enid is assigned to review a disturbing archive film that echoes her hazy childhood memories, she begins to unravel the connection between this mysterious work and her past. Critic Mark Kermode adds the name of director Prano Bailey-Bond to the likes of Jennifer Kent, Julia Ducournau, Natalie Erika James, and Rose Glass to prove “that the future of cutting-edge horror is fearless, forthright and female”. Winner of the 2021 Méliès d’or Award.
