A film by Emily Harris

UK, 2019, 96'

Late 18th century. Teenager Lara lives with her father and her strict governess, Miss Fontaine, in total isolation and is struggling to find an outlet for her curiosity and burgeoning sexuality. When a nearby carriage collision brings a recovering young girl into the family home, Lara is enchanted by the eponymous Carmilla, much to Miss Fontaine’s disfavour. An atmospheric love story inspired by the gothic vampire novel of the same name by Irish author Sheridan Le Fanu, the first known vampire story to have a female vampire as a protagonist. Feature debut by Emily Harris, also responsible for the adapted script, starring Tobias Menzie (“Game of Thrones”) in the leading roles.
