Bloody Oranges

Oranges Sanguines

A film by Jean-Christophe Meurisse

France, 2021, 102'

France, today. Simultaneously, a retired couple overwhelmed by debt tries to win a dance contest, as the minister of the Economy is suspected of tax evasion, and a teenage girl encounters a sexual maniac, while a young lawyer attempts to climb the social ladder. When the shoe drops, the winner won’t necessarily be the one we expected. Second feature film by actor/director Jean-Christophe Meurisse, this time in mosaic format to extend its satirical bent to various sectors of contemporary French society, in which the excellence of the actors is left ‘on the loose’ by the director, and together they embark on a journey without pre-set coordinates by the genre, with clear influences from the westerns of Sam Peckinpah and the classic “Deliverance” by John Boorman.
