MOTELX Lab | A Conversation with Julie Corman

As part of the centennial celebration of one of the greatest and most innovative filmmakers of all time — the “King of B-movies” or the “Godfather of New Hollywood,” as you prefer to call him — Roger Corman, MOTELX will be pleased to have as its guest his wife and producer, Julie Corman.

Julie Corman is an American film producer known for her work in genre cinema, especially horror, science fiction, and exploitation. She began her career in the 1970s as an associate producer on Boxcar Bertha (1973), Martin Scorsese's directorial debut. Over five decades, she has accumulated more than 40 production credits, frequently collaborating with her husband, Roger Corman, through New World Pictures. Among her films are The Lady in Red (1979), Chopping Mall (1986), The Nest (1988), Sharktopus (2010), and Dinoshark (2010). Her productions were marked by strong female characters and innovative low-budget narratives, contributing to the representation of women in genre cinema. In addition to producing, she was also involved in distribution and training in independent filmmaking.

Julie Corman was married to Roger Corman from 1970 until his death in 2024, and they had four children. Her legacy remains particularly strong in cult cinema and American independent film.
