![]() Cinema São Jorge Regarded as the most emblematic movie theater in Lisbon, Cinema São Jorge first opened to the public in 1950. In 1951, the architectural project conceived by Fernando Silva was awarded the Municipal Architecture Prize. With unusual technological innovations for its time, namely the air conditioner, a central aspiration system and an electric piano, São Jorge was, at the time of its opening, the largest film theatre in the country, with about 2000 chairs and a stage which sheltered the memorable elevating music organ, still remembered by many today, with great affection. In 1982, it was restructured and transformed from one cinema room to three rooms - two in the ground floor and one on the first floor.
